Two women sit across from each other at a wooden table in a room with large windows, smiling and talking. One woman, with dark hair in a white sweater, is taking notes in a notebook. The other woman, with blonde hair in a red blouse, has a laptop open in front of her and is smiling. A stack of books and a purple plant are on the table.

You are in safe hands

I’m a qualified Nutritional Therapist, having studied for four years at Patrick Holford’s Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, where I graduated in 2007 with a DipION. Since then, I’ve worked with individuals one-to-one, run cooking classes and weight management groups, and led wellness retreats.

My interest in nutritional therapy began back in 1998, when my mum was diagnosed with cancer. We were introduced to the Penny Brohn Cancer Care Centre in Bristol, where we received practical, compassionate advice on food, nutrition, and wellbeing. I found myself cooking her meals, reading everything I could about nutrients, and unknowingly sowing the seed that would shape the course of my working life.

Around the same time, while studying nutrition (and holding down a full-time job!), I began to struggle with my own health. I wasn’t sleeping, I was constantly exhausted, and I was in persistent pain. Despite countless visits to GPs and consultants, no serious cause was found. I was offered pain-numbing medication and pain management therapy—but deep down, I knew that wasn’t the long-term answer.

Eventually, I began running functional tests on myself—and the results were eye-opening. Despite eating what I thought was a healthy diet, my gut was in poor shape, my nutrient levels were low, and many of my hormones were depleted. In short, I was completely burnt out. It was time to slow down.

With the support of a wonderful nutritionist and an incredible acupuncturist, I made a full recovery over 18 months. The pain I had lived with resolved completely. But the first year was tough. I couldn’t do the things I loved—sport was off the table, socialising was difficult (even sitting on hard chairs was painful), and I needed extra time to finish my nutrition coursework. I was also reacting to all sorts of foods.

Looking back now, it was a challenging but important chapter. It gave me personal insight into the frustration, isolation, and resilience that often come with chronic health conditions—and I carry that understanding into my work with every client I support.

I spent 12 years living in Edinburgh, but these days you’ll find me just north of Glasgow, where I live with my partner and our whippet, Ellie. I have a soft spot for all dogs—but sighthounds will always have my heart.

A former club swimmer and runner, I’ve always felt at home in the water and out in nature. I’ve taken on some incredible swims, including crossing Lake Windermere (11 miles!) and even swimming from Asia to Europe across the Bosphorus in Istanbul’s annual race.

These days, nothing makes me happier than being up in the hills with Ellie by my side. I’m also one of those rare morning people—yes, we do exist!
